Dear Prospective Client:
There is a person in every profession who will accomplish as little as possible, and spend most of their energy just trying to get away with it. "Who cares as long as you get paid?" is a phrase I've heard repeated by some people in this profession. They won't say that to a client of course, but they do say it. They understandably don't stay in business long.
Since 1992, I’ve had the opportunity to provide investigative services to many different types of businesses, attorneys, insurance companies and individuals, within California, across the United States and in several foreign countries. I have also worked with many other private investigators, and former members of the law enforcement and intelligence communities, many of whom I have learned a great deal from. They have formidable skills, experience and professionalism.
There are also others who simply lack the intellect, judgment or ethical standards required to be in this profession. Be very careful who you hire.
Did you know that Southern California has more investigators per capita then almost anywhere in the country? Being licensed doesn’t necessarily mean being competent. In fact, there was an individual a few years ago who, for a fee, illegally documented unqualified individuals with the 6000 hours of experience required by California to become licensed. Fortunately, that person was revealed as a fraud, and many of the unqualified licensees couldn’t compete, and eventually went out of business.
Regardless, when considering a private investigator, you should always check the license status. Look for complaints and disciplinary actions. Consider how long the investigator has been licensed. Who has been licensed since 1992? That would be me of course.
Don’t choose an investigator because they have the cheapest rate. Mistakes can be very expensive. Our rates are competitive with the industry standard.
Choose from a referral. If you can’t get a referral, try contacting some of the professional organizations such as California Association of Licensed Investigators. We have been members for several years.
Don’t believe the hype. The large investigative agencies have no more access or skills then the smaller firm. The agency that claims to have offices in New York, London, Paris and Tokyo is probably just a guy working out of his kitchen. Some of the best investigators do run small firms that can provide a more personalized service. A.T. Ulmer and Associates is a small firm. In fact, the majority of the time you will be dealing directly with me.
Find an investigator who is creative and can think outside the box. I’ve noticed some investigators suggest surveillance as the answer for almost every problem .It's not. Obviously in some cases surveillance is required, but there are many circumstances when good old fashioned detective work and some creativity will be more effective. Remember, you are paying your investigator to think, and you have the right to expect them to be clever and intelligent.
"Who cares as long as you get paid?"
We do. We care about the impact an investigation will have on our clients, we care about our reputation and our client’s reputation, we care about the quality of our work product and we care about the results. This is why our clients have been able to depend on our 16 year history of providing quality investigative services in a timely and cost efficient manner.
Please feel free to contact me at anytime to discuss your needs.
